Cnoc na Péiste ("Hill of the Serpent") lies within the
MacGillycuddy Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. While
not as famous as its nearby brother, Corrán Tuathail (the tallest
mountain in Ireland), it is just as scenic and certainly as
rewarding to climb. On a clear day the panoramic views from the top
are truly stunning. In December 1943 an American WWII plane crashed
here and various plane parts can be seen on the slope.
For directions to the area and a bit of local history, check out
the
highest cache in Ireland (thanks Klaus/Marcus). As you head
along the path through Hag's Glen, Serpent Hill is located on your
left. Veer off towards it at any point and take care on the
numerous rocks on the way up.
The cache contains a log book, pencils, a few trinkets and a
disposable camera. Hopefully the day will be clear!
