Geocache Description:

Eddystone Lighthouse car Park at Rame Head NOTE WESTINGS SHOULD READ 004 AND NOT 005 thanks Mad Max The above co ords are correct but the ones shown below had finger trouble so use above!

There are 9 listed lighthouses around the Cornish coast I have placed a cache and part co ordinate in eight of them. To get to the ninth you will need to collect possibly all the other eight co ordinates. Each cache may be claimed as a find. All caches have a view of it's own lighthouse! NO CACHES ARE WITHIN THE GROUNDS.
Eddystone Rocks a dangerous reef 8 miles off Rame head has had 5 lighthoses built on it since 1698 when Henry Winstanley built the first out of Cornish granite. Rebuilt a year later the second tower was destroyed in 1703 together with Winstanley who was on site at the time.
The 3rd tower was built by John Rudyerd in 1708 and lasted 47 years until the candles used for light set the roof ablaze and burnt the tower down.
The 4th tower built by Smeeton completed in 1759 withstood 127 years of the best that the sea could throw at it! Cracking at the base required replacement and the old tower dismantled piece by piece and re-errected on Plymouth Hoe where it may still be seen.
James Douglas designed the 5th tower completed in 1882 and is still in use today , the station was automated and unmanned in 1982.
