Geocache Description:

The Cache is located at an elevation of 500 meters close to a national walking track. The track is fairly steep in places.

The cache is close to the Southern Upland Way walking track on the Traquair to Yair section which uses an 800+ year old road over the Minch Moor. At one time this was the main route across southern Scotland. The Duke of Montrose and his men reputedly fled across this road after their defeat at the Battle of Philiphaugh near Selkirk. The spring known as the Cheese Well is so called after the ancient custom of travellers making offerings to the "Fairies of the Hills".
The best approach is from Traquair village where there is a good car park behind the Hall at 55 36.005 3 03.782. If you are really energetic you could of course walk from Yair! There is a Bothy at 55 35.553 3 02.700 where walkers on the Way can overnight.
The Cache is a lock & lock plastic container which at the time of placing had the following contents:
Log Book(pen & Pencil)
A Mouse Trap (of course)
2 Key Rings
Torch & Battery
Fountain Pen
Padlock & Key
Small Karibiner
Key attachment for belt
Sticking Plaster
