The
Hayride
The event will officially start at 6:00 PM, but the hayride will
not leave until 7:00 PM. This is no ordinary hayride, it will be a
haunted geocaching adventure with stops along the way to hunt the
stages of a special interactive presentation of the multi-stage
cache "McGuffin's Bluff (GCZ0ZF)". So come prepared with
flashlights courage and imagination.
The Food
& Festivities
After the big hunt we will have a weenie roast at the bonfire
with s'mores for dessert. We will provide plenty of our salsas and
sauces for chipping and dipping along with the hot dogs and the
s'mores construction material. Please bring your favorite potluck
dish to share with the group. We will also provide hot spiced tea
and cocoa, but we ask you to bring anything else you may want to
drink. Of course, after the hayride and the food we will have lots
of time to sit around the bonfire and tell tall geocaching tales
and stories of the spookiest cache hunts ever.
The
Contests
What would a Halloween Geocaching Event be without silly
contests? Well, we are not going to find out, because we will be
having lots of silly contests complete with totally useless and
cheesy prizes for the winners, although we might slip something
cool in as a prize occasionally, remember that BackBrake Billy has
donated several geocoins to be given away over the course of the
night. This year we will be having contests for:
- Best Costume (Child Division)
- Best Costume (Adult Division)
- Best Werewolf Howl
- Best Witch Cackle
- Biggest Pumpkin
- Best Halloween Decorated Geocache Container
- Scariest Geocache Container
and much, much more!
Costumes are strongly recommended, I will not require them, but
expect Monkeybrad to ridicule you if you show up out of
costume.
The Lodging
Details
Since this one usually goes until well into the night, we have
decided to include lodging information for those of you travelling
from out of town.
Henry Horton State Park has great facilities available
inlcuding primitive camping, motorhome hookups, a nice lodge and
even cabins for rental, and the best part is that it is only about
five miles from the event. I have it on good authority that there
will be several geocachers camping at the park this weekend, check
local listings for other events in the area. There are also hotels
available in Shelbyvile, Lewisburg and Columbia, but they are all a
bit further to drive.
The
obligatory disclaimers...
We do have one request. Due to the presence of our own furry
family members,(besides Monkeybrad) we ask that pets be left at
home so as not to cause any conflict. Thank you in advance for your
consideration.
And as always, this is a family friendly event, adult beverages
are welcome, but let's keep it discreet until the kiddies go to
bed.
The Bottom Line
We look forward to seeing everyone this year, it keeps growing and
this year's event should be bigger and better than ever, with more
fun and surprises and a much more organized hayride with 98% fewer
flat tires and dead batteries. So come on out and join us for our
