Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Brighton Ski Resort at the top of one of the lifts (Snake Creek) at approximately 10300 feet. The pathway is a bit steep and the are some rocks that you will have to navigate.

You will be looking for a fairly large, blue, plastic top jar. The original contents were a Wasatch 100 Belt Buckle for the FTF, Turtle the Travel Bug, Homer plush doll, Purple and black action figure, pink ninja, along with documentation, pens, pencils and the log book. This is a great view from up on the ridge and you aren't very far from Clayton Peak if you want an extra hike.

ABOUT THIS CACHE:
The Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run is held in Utah the first weekend after Labor Day each year. The run stretches from Layton, Utah to The Homestead in Midway, Utah and covers some of the most beautiful scenery the Wasatch Mountains have to offer.

Runners are exposed to a cumulative elevation gain of approximately 26,882 feet, as well as a cumulative loss of approximately 26,131 feet throughout the course. The run starts at 5am on a Saturday morning and continues through about 5pm Sunday night. The 2009 winner (Geoff Roes) set a new course record, finishing with a total time of 18 Hours and 30 minutes.

Amateur radio operators have provided communication services for the Wasatch 100 for many years. These volunteer operators man each of the 15 aid stations along the course providing communication services back to a central control station (Net Control) located at the finish line in Midway. The aid stations log each runner’s time in and out of their specific location. These times are then reported via Amateur Radio voice or digital communication back to Net Control (which is staffed 24x7 for the duration of the run by Amateur Radio Operators). From there the times are uploaded to an online database where people world wide can track the progress of their runners. In the event a runner is unaccounted for, the Amateur Radio operators will work directly with the Search and Rescue teams to locate and/or rescue the stranded or lost runner.

This specific site is used each year to house temporary communications equipment that is vital to supporting the runners during this event.

This cache is dedicated by the Amateur Radio Staff to the hundreds of runners that build up the courage and train for countless hours each year in an attempt to conquer the mighty Wasatch 100 Mile Endurance run.
