According to archeological finds the town of Balatonfüred was a built-up area already in the Roman period. It was first mentioned in a document in 1211.
The name of the town - means the village or the land of the priest - refers to the Benedictines. The servants of the Abbecy lived here. The place had an own church, which was bulit in honour of Saint Michael. This church is found in the north-west of Balatonfüred, in the north side of the road running to Balatonszolos and situated in a churchyard on the hill. It has got a wonderful view and it is situated in the place of a villa built in the roman period. The church was bulit in the 12th century.
It was reconstructed, enlarged and a Gothic chancel was set up in it in the middle of the 15th century. Nowadays you can only see the ruins of the church.
The box: 10x5 cm cylindrical box.
