Nine Mile Ride Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Tom's Brother: I am still unable to repair this cache due now to a knee problem which is preventing me from walking any distance.

Rather than "block other caches from entering the area.." as Long Man put it, I will archive this cache. Many thanks to all those who have visited the cache in the past and their many nice comments.

Now there will be room for another micro or perhaps another puzzle cache, in the area [:)]

Geocache Description:

The cache is in an area of forest known as Kings Ride. This, and all the other forests around the area, were once part of the Windsor Forest which originally covered most of Berkshire.
The cache is hidden beside a lost section of Nine Mile Ride, probably one of the most well known of the rides created for Queen Anne at the beginning of the 18th Century. She was unable to ride with the hunt, so liked to follow in her carriage instead. The rides were made wide enough for her carriage to pass along following the hunt.

There are 2 suggested parking places:

Woodlands Ride in Ascot (N51 23.884 - W000 40.798). There is space for one car by the entrance to the forest and plenty of parking on the road itself.

Buttersteep Rise, off the A332 Swinley Road (N51 23.243 - W000 41.948). Here there is some limited parking on the grass verge.
