Geocache Description:

It is said that the earth's circle which the human race inhabits is torn across into many bights, so that great seas run into the land from the out-ocean.

The cache is in the greatest and the most magnificent bulgarian city of Veliko Tarnovo. It is one of the oldest settlements in Bulgaria, having a history of more than 5 millennia. The city was the capital of Bulgaria during the Second Bulgarian Empire (1185-1396). One of Bulgaria's primary tourist destinations, Veliko Tarnovo boasts many historical monuments and landmarks, such as the ruins of the castle Carevec on the hill of the same name, which housed the royal and patriarchal palace, and Trapezica, the second fortress of the inner city on the right bank of Yantra. Next to Carevec is the Sveta Gora hill (Holy Wood) where "St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo" is located. Veliko Tarnovo is the most bulgarian place in Bulgaria.

The oldest Slavic form of boyar — bolyarin — is found in Bulgaria, where it might be related to the old Bulgar title boila, which denoted a high aristocratic status among the Bulgars. It was probably transformed through boilar or bilyar to bolyar and bolyarin. A member of the nobility during the First Bulgarian Empire was called a boila, while in the Second Bulgarian Empire the corresponding title became bolyar or bolyarin. Bolyar, as well as its predecessor, boila, was a hereditary title. The bolyars were divided into veliki (great) and mali (small). In Bulgaria at present the word "bolyari" is used as a nickname for the inhabitants of Veliko Tarnovo — the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. So, welcome to your "walking with the bolyars".
