Geocache Description:

Thames Path - Boulter's Lock

The first lock was built by the Thames Navigation Commissioners in 1772, with the first lock keepers house being built of timber two years later in 1774.  It was rebuilt on a new site in 1829 (the site of the current lock). The Thames Conservancy built a new lock in 1868, which they rebuilt in 1912.

This is a very popular place and you will need some cunning to retrieve the cache without being observed, as it is in full view of the lock.  There will be pedestrian, river and street traffic to contend with.

I suggest the following:  Line yourself up with the centre of the lock-keepers house; turn around and look across the road.  You will see an obvious hidey-hole.  It's in there.  To avoid the interest of boat-muggles, it might also be a good idea to wait for the lock to be closed and boat traffic is below ground level.  Be very careful crossing the road as it can be quite busy.

You are looking for a screw-top specimen jar (about the same size as a 35mm film canister), containing just the logbook and pencil.  Please be careful replacing the cache so that it doesn't disappear into the void forever.

Good luck!
