Geocache Description:

Thames Path - Marsh Lock and Weir

The first surprise upon approaching Marsh Lock is not the lock itself, but the giant weir gantries.  Together with the very long walkway, this makes a lovely place to wander about on a sunny, Sunday afternoon with the family.

There are records of a lock here dating back to the 15th century.  It was a flash lock until 1773, with two mills, one on each side of the river. Despite the weir gantries and the modern walkway, Marsh Lock attracts a large range of wildlife.  Buzzards, Hobbies, Kingfishers and Egyptian Geese are among frequent visitiors, and on the day of placing the cache I spotted a black swan.

Recommended parking is free and only a few hundred yards from the cache, so could be a dash for those in a hurry.

IMPORTANT!

Due to the nature of this location, please be very careful if you have young children with you.  The path across the waterway has only waist-high railings, with what looks like a convenient foot hold half-way up.

You are looking for a micro-container, containing just the logbook.  Please bring your own pencil/pen to log your visit, and please take care when retrieving/replacing so that it's not lost forever!

Good luck!
