The Wildwood Trail is a recreational trail that follows an old
feeder rail line owned by the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha
Railway Company and abandoned around 1970. This feeder once
connected the main east-west rail line north of Woodville to the
town of Spring Valley to the south. St. Croix County chose to
develop the right-of-way for recreational purposes when the rail
line was abandoned. Horseback riding, hiking and biking are common
summer activities on the packed limestone trail from the county
line at the south through Woodville at the north. Snowmobiling and
hiking on the trail are favorite winter activities here. Pierce
County, to the south, chose not to acquire the trail right-of-way
and the land was eventually purchased by the Schmitt Timber
Company. Local snowmobile clubs currently maintain a trail there
for their benefit through private agreements with the land owner.
Horseback riding, biking and hiking are not generally allowed on
this section. Currently a special agreement with Mr. Jeff Schmitt,
one of the co-owners, has allowed several caches. Only access these
from the North.
This cache was hidden as a part of the One Degree of Separation
Geocaching Project. Originally harvested from the "One Degree of
Separation: Chippewa River Trail" seed cache this micro is meant to
help in uniting the entire Geocaching continuum together using the
"Small World Theory."
It should be noted that if even half of the estimated 13,000
caches released on 5/26/2006 are placed as active caches, no
geocacher in the entire world (with one or more find) would have to
go much beyond three degrees of separation to make his next find.
The REAL objective of this project is to bring that number down to
one degree for as many Geocachers as possible.
One Degree of Separation is a project that has been taking shape
and growing for nearly three years. it's a variation of the "Small
World" concept that was proposed in the early 20th century. Many
people are familiar with the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game, but
few know it's origins.

Many other goals will be posted as the project grows, here are a
few:
1. To have an active ODS cache hidden on all seven
continents.
2. To have an ODS cache hidden in all 50 States.
3. To have an ODS cache hidden in a number of foreign countries by
milestone, ten countries at a time. ie First milestone, then 10,
then 20 and so on.
More goals will be posted on the ODS Web Site:
