Geocache Description:

You want spectacular views?!?! Well this is the cache for you. However you will have to work for this one [:D] It requires a round trip hike of 6 miles with 1400 feet of elevation gain. Also a 6 1/2 mile drive up a forest service road to get to the trailhead. A Northwest Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead.

This cache is located on the rocky peak just west of Summit Lake. There is no climbing required as a well traveled trail goes right to the top.

The trail starts at the Summit Lake Trailhead 47° 01.860 W 121° 49.593 (There is also a cache located here. Even though I saw regular cars at the trailhead, I HIGHLY reccommed a vehicle with high clearance! The road is in good shape for most of the way, however there are a number of spots where you will need to be very careful if you are in a normal car. The forest service road starts at N46 59.666 W121 55.191. The bridge crosses over the Carbon River.

Follow trail to Summit Lake, upon arriving at the lake basin you will see a trail that goes to the left (west) at
N47 02.325 W 121 49.673. You will notice a wooden sign on a tree, that is kind of shaped like a baseball "homeplate" There is no writing on the sign. This is where you want to turn west. As you start down this trail look due west at the large rocky outcropping past the lake, the cache is located on the top of that

Once on top the whole region opens up to you. From the west side of the top you can see Seattle, Tacoma, the Olympics, Puget Sound, Lake Tapps, etc....

From the north side of the top you can see Mt. Baker to the north, Glacier Peak to the northeast.

From the east side of the top you can see the Stewart Range to the east and looking straight down 400 feet you are looking directly into Summit Lake right below your feet.

From the south side of the top, well, My Rainier dominates the sky, you can almost touch it. Also Mt. St. Helens is peaking over Rainiers western slopes.

Important note: To prevent damage to the fragile meadows on top, I have placed this cache within 2 feet of the trail. You do not need to leave the trail at all to get to this cache.

For those of you who think this is a lot of work for just one cache, well on a clear day it is well worth the effort. However for those of you who may want more cache bang for your cache buck there are many caches on the way to this cache. Many of which you drive by withn a few feet of on your way up the forest service road.

Some of the cache you can get to on the way to and from this cache are:

There are also many other caches in the area. This is a cache rich area, in a remote location. Spend a day and have a blast!

Because of the possibility of bugs, I left some insect repellant in the cache. Feel free to use what you want, but leave the container for other to use if they need it.
