Geocache Description:

Finlay Munro was a famous Highland Evangelist who is thought to have been a native of Tain. In his early years he was employed by Dr. Angus Mackintosh as minister's man, and he was supposed to look after the glebe. It was at this time that his spiritual change seems to have taken place, and he came to the conclusion that, if he had faith, he could perform miracles. He gave the minister's seed to the poor, and sowed the chaff in the glebe. He fully hoped he would reap a good crop from this, in the Autumn. The result was that there were no oats in the glebe that year. The Doctor concluded that Finlay had sold the oats, and had kept the proceeds for himself.

He once held a meeting on a hillside near Torgyle in Glenmoriston, his hearers sitting on the rising ground in front of him. He himself stood on a flat piece of clay ground, which doubtless was under grass at the time. During the sermon some Roman Catholics from Glengarry distracted the attention of the congregation, and Finlay, reproaching them, said that as a proof of the truth of his teaching his footprints would remain there, some say until until the Day of Judgment. This was in 1827, and after more than 150 years the footprints can still be made out untouched by grass.

This is a quick roadside cache that brings you to see a small piece of local history. The cache box itself is secreted somewhere nearby, at the above co-ordinates. The container is a small lock n lock box. There is parking nearby in a layby at the side of the A887.
