About this cache:The cache is located near Picacho Peak .
The peak is a landmark that was used by many explorers. It is mentioned by Father Kino in the 17th century.
A road was built in 1846 by the Mormon Battalion, on their way to California to fight a war with Mexico. The road was used later by the forty-niners and the Butterfield Overland Stage.
A civil war battle occurred here in 1862 when a Confederate scouting party was attacked by Union soldiers from California.
The "paloverde tree--saguaro cactus plant association" here is typical of the Lower Sonoran Life Zone found in much of southern Arizona.
Wildlife found here include the desert mule deer, javelina , mountain lion, bobcat, gray fox and the ubiquitous coyote.
Rattlesnakes, although not seen often do occur here, so take care as you make the short hike to the cache.
