Geocache Description:

These Co-Ordinates are not the location of the cache but are at the centre of Cotehele Quay from where your search begins.
We have placed the cache to celebrate our 100th cache find on 18th June 2006. Suggested parking is in the Quay car park, but please note it is now pay and display, There is VERY limited parking in the lanes around the estate.
Cotehele Quay along with the house, gardens and extensive woodlands are owned and maintained by the National Trust. There is no charge for access to the Quay or woodland areas. At the Quay interesting old buildings house the Edgcumbe Arms tea-room and an outstation of the National Maritime Museum.

The restored Tamar sailing barge Shamrock is moored alongside. A network of footpaths throughout the estate provides a variety of riverside and woodland walks with nature conservation and industrial archaeology interest.

While you are here time is well spent visiting the main house and gardens. Permission to place this cache has been obtained personally from the Estate Warden on a one off basis. Please respect the trust we have been shown.

The cache is a small snap lock plastic box containing log and pencil.
The GPS reception is very poor in several places and this has affected the positional accuracy to some extent hence the directions. Most points of interest are fairly obvious.
Your challenge if you choose to accept it, is to find a cache using the clues you discover on your walk. There is one micro to find but all other information is clearly visible along the route. When you have collected all the data you are a short walk from the small cache.

The circular walk is approx. 4.5 miles, anti-clockwise from the car park through National Trust woodland on tracks, made up roads and some quite steep paths up through the woods. At no time [including to retrieve the cache], will you need to divert from the permitted paths or rights of way.

Start on the quay and find the Shamrock.

Take the track from the car park and head along the widest path, parallel to the river, up the path through the woods to the Chapel.

Continue along the path around the hill until you reach the bench and look for the MICRO.

Carry on to the old sawmill, once used for the production of timbers for the local mines. Look up the info for the Sawmill .

Follow the track to an obvious path on the left (50-100Mtrs), take a deep breath and climb to the top. Go into the field. The public right of way extends along the field right hand edge despite the landowner sometimes planting crops over the path. As you leave the woods look over to your left, there is a triangular tower. How many sides does it have? =G

Continue along the field edge to the stile, cross the road and then onward to the POLE. Be sure to collect the info.

Continue down the road to the KISSING GATE , use the permissive path across the field to the bottom left corner, [please note there may be an electric fence across the field somewhere] and then through the gate into the woods.

Follow the bottom track through the woods to the road. Go to, and through a LARGE GATE after collecting the info from the nearby pole.. The gate is a public right of way although the sign is missing.

Follow the path along the side of the stream to the end, and look for the info on the Information Board. (the signal along the path was poor or non existent in places but is not needed anyway.)

Having collected all the information needed the cache location is at; N50 AB.CD(E-2) W 004 FG.((HIJ)+9)
