Geocache Description:

Simple cache and dash. Nearest parking at side of road N51 15.95 - W000 29.00 within 100 meters of cache. Advise plot Grid Ref on OS Explorer Map 145 to avoid ambiguity.
WARNING: ADDERS HAVE BEEN SEEN AROUND THIS CACHE - PLEASE BE EXTRA CAREFUL IF YOU ARE WITH SMALL CHILDREN OR DOGS!

The idea for this cache came from a magic book: CATWEAZLE.

Who does not remember Catweazle - the Saxon Sorcerer with his "Familiar" Touchwood the Toad and their friend "Carrot", as created by Richard Carpenter and immortalized by the actors Geoffrey Bayldon and Robin Davies in the 1970s TV series!

After a bit of Magic went wrong, Catweazle flew through time and catapulted himself into our modern world of "Electrickery" and "Telling Bones". Fans of Catweazle will know that the first TV series & book was centred around the fictional HEXWOOD FARM, and that it was shot just down the road. The film crew also built the set for CASTLE SABURAC, Catweazle's magic abode, a disused water-tower, very nearby. If you catch a whiff of 900 years of unwashed humanity, then the old man with the whispy beard and rabbit skin boots must be near. Since Adders have been reported nearby on hot summer days it may be that some of his magic at least is still around.

The cache was laid on the day of the 2006 Catweazle Fan Club meeting at HEXWOOD FARM & it contains many Catweazle related items.
At the same time the TB "Catweazle's Familiar Touchwood" was released here on his mission to 'Go thither and spread thy magic!'

For an excellent Pub with good food visit the QUEEN'S HEAD which is half a mile down the road in East Clandon, and also featured in the programme.
