Geocache Description:

Old Mammoth Road

Originally hauled by mule teams from Mojave to Mill City in 1878, the Knight Wheel powered Mammoth Mining Company's 20 stamp mill for processing gold ore until 1895, when it was relocated to Mammoth City.

This high pressure, low volume wheel was ultimately moved to it's present location in 1902, and converted to an electric generating plant for the Wildasinn Hotel nearby. In the 1920's, it also supplied electricity to Charlie Summer's Mammoth Camp.

The adjacent structure housed the generator and is the oldest known building in Mammoth.

The cache, a 4" x 4" x 2" metal tin, is hidden close by. It is typically inaccessible throughout the winter snow season. Please do not attempt to dig down for it as that will most likely damage the garden below as well as the container. Good luck.

Please return the cache carefully and be certain that the lid is tightly secured.

NOTE: Please log your geocoin and travel bug exchanges as soon as possible. Thanks!

Good luck & Happy caching!
