Geocache Description:

If you approach via kemnal Lane, go through the white gate signed private road and continue down until the footpath crosses the road. Then go through the ‘kissing gate’, the rest is up to you and your gps. (It can get muddy).

You are looking for a clear 2 litre sandwich box. (Be careful the dense tree cover may disrupt the gps signal)

The cache is hidden I what used to be the grounds of a large Victorian house called kemnal Manor. It was one of the earliest substantial houses in the Chislehurst area, and was continuously occupied for at least 700 years. But today the remaining land of the once desirable Estate grows wild and unkempt, while the last house, deserted and ruined, was destroyed by fire in 1964.

The estate was requisitioned by the war office in august 1939. In 1951 however a massive building was erected the purpose of civil defence. This nuclear bunker was one of four identical war rooms to control the five civil defence sectors, which London had been divided up into during the cold war.

After it’s closure the bunker was abandoned and over the years was damaged by fire and vandals, It has since been converted into a luxury home called ‘the Glasshouse’, the building was to have more windows around the outside wall, but it proved to difficult and costly to punch holes through the 2 meter thick walls.

You should be able to see it over the fence, it’s the one with what looks like it has a greenhouse on the roof. All the land here is still owned by the MoD and you can still see remnants of buildings and fences.
