Geocache Description:

An easy walk with a spectacular view.
(Please note that the coastal path does run close to the edge of the cliffs in places so dogs and children need to be kept under strict control).

St Justinian’s is the home of the St David’s lifeboat and the departure point for several boat trips. It is also the site of the ruins of a 16th century chapel dedicated to St Justinian who, obeying heavenly orders, set sail in a coracle to Ramsey Island to live as a hermit. Legend has it that a land bridge formerly connected Ramsey with the mainland. St Justinian, bothered by people wishing to honour him, prayed for it to disappear. It did, as if chopped by an axe, leaving behind a series of small islands known as ‘The Bitches’. The combination of the tidal stream whipping through Ramsey Sound at up to 7 knots and the rocks of The Bitches make for a spectacular view.
This is a wonderful stretch of the coastal path with easy walking, but parts of the path do run close to the cliff edge so DOGS AND CHILDREN NEED TO BE KEPT UNDER STRICT CONTROL. It is a good spot for wildlife, especially seals and dolphins, so bring your binoculars, and look out for canoeists playing on the standing waves.
Parking is available in designated areas beside the road or paid parking is available in a large field during the summer.

Note: Unfortunately the cache site tends to get rather overgrown in high summer now that the area isn't being grazed by ponies. We thought about archiving the cache but it's such a lovely spot it seems a shame so here is a hint to avoid the worst of the undergrowth. - If approaching from St Justinians, as you near the cache you will see a grassy slope leading up to a gate. Head towards the gate (but please don't go through it), and you will notice a geocachers 'trail' leading towards the cache site. Although there is still plenty of bracken to get through there is very little gorse, so it's much kinder on the legs!

**PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE FIELD TO REACH THE CACHE - IT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY.**
