The Old Bridge Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

duracell: Thanks for the information, m^3. I had been meaning to get out here to check on the cache but couldn't get a round tuit. I'll try to get another cache out here close by one of these days, or someone else might like to put one in this lovely location.

Geocache Description:

A short walk to a little known access to the Hillsborough River and an old bridge directly across from Big Pine Island.

While doing the Big Pine Island Roundabout cache last week we noticed that there was a trail that we didn’t know about accessing the other side of the Hillsborough River from the Island. Exploration revealed that this trail can be reached from the Jefferson Road Equestian Trails.

Park at N28 04.188 W82 18.508, climb over the gate (the Wilderness Park Ranger says it’s okay) and walk 0.52 mile on the horse trail to N28 04.524 W82 18.172 then head 0.2 mile north to the River where you will see remnants of an old wooden bridge that used to go over to Big Pine Island and was probably once connected to the old tramway and bridge in Morris Bridge park. The old bridge posts may become submerged when the River rises. The cache is also accessible by kayak or canoe.

The cache is a recycled 51-ounce clear plastic Sunmaid Chocolate Raisons container with a red lid, full of items useful for geocaching (a stainless steel Keychain Pill Fob that can be used as a micro, a wrist compass, a mosquito head net, hikers’ toilet tissue, etc.) It has been placed about 5 feet above the current level of the River hidden in natural camoflauge.

Congratulations to texmex for MEFF!
