Geocache Description:

Located within the bounds of the Norris Museum, St. Ives - NOT AVAILABLE 24/7 - The co-ords are not for the cache itself (see below)

The "Hurstingstone Hundred", mentioned at the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086, covered most of the surrounding areas from Warboys to the Riptons (North of the river) including Slepe or St. Ives.

The stone called the "Hursting Stone" or the Abbot's Chair was situated on the hill called Hurstingstone Hill at the highest point of the road from St. Ives to Old Hurst, and is thought to have been the meeting-place of the Hursting tribe (The Hirstina or Hyrstingas) and here the abbots of Ramsey held the hundred court.

This and other exhibits in the garden including a pair of Roman coffins found whilst building the new A1 and the Town Fire Engine are also worth a visit.

The cache is in itself unusual as it is located within the Museums interior and is freely available during museum opening times.

No need to rummage through the museum exhibts to find the cache it is fairly obvious when you get there where the cache is located.

Please say "hello" to the Museum staff who kindly let us place the cache here and without whom this cache would not be possible. If you like our cache & museum, please support the museum by buying a postcard or a book about the area (Mostly written by Bob Burn-Murdoch, the Previous curator.

Check for opening times. NOTE: NOT open sundays October - April
