Located in Carnikava municipality, Garupe, near the old river bed of river Langa.
This cache is located in Carnikava municipality, Garupe.
The best bet would be to travel till Garupe, then proceed on foot in the country park "Piejuura". Here you must cross river Langa (The Long river). As can be seen from the width of the river bed, it was a noticeable river, which brought waters from Kjiishezers lake to river Gauja (and further to the Baltic sea).
Langa lost most of it's waters somewhere in 10th century, when monks of the Old Riga Monastery dug out the Miilgravis (“mill ditch”) - it lowered the water level in Kjiishezers and reversed Langa.
Langa has been blocked in several places by moving dunes, it's flow has been reduced and in between some of the dunes even small lakes have formed. In thirties of 19th century dunes were covered by pines.
Old river bed has wooden bridges going over it that provide view on now swamped Langa (and, of course, a mean to cross the river bed-swamp). Watch your step, though, they are badly maintained.
