Geocache Description:

This event is a hiding blitz to culminate in a BBQ/picnic/bonfire on June 3! RAIN DATE TO BE THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY, JUNE 10 Help us get more caches out in Manitoba by taking part in the MBGA May Madness Blitz. Its all about hiding caches all over the province for the month and of course, there will be PRIZES!!! You don't need to hide a cache to participate in the event on June 3 either! We just need an excuse to get together and talk cache!

In conjunction with our event, cachers up north are thinking of holding a similar event also and logging it on our event page!

To be involved in the "Blitz", all you need to do is hide those caches between May 1-31, 2006. That's it! Whether it be multi's, puzzles, or your regular old caches, we want you to hide 'em! Any cache you want to be considered for a prize MUST HAVE "BLITZ" somewhere in the cache name when listed! For full Blitz rules please visit:

Help make our sport grow in our province!

Now that the Blitz is well under way, it's time to give some more information about the event day, June 3.

BBQ and Potluck

The BBQ and potluck starts any time after 3:00. Please bring your own main dish for your family, and a side dish or salad or dessert to share. Also please bring your own drinks.

To quote Dragonfreys "A good potluck rule of thumb is to bring enough in the dish to feed your family if that is all they ate. Many people attempt to feed the whole group and you end up with way too much food. The fun thing about potlucks is you never really know what is going to be there, but usually works out to be quite a variety. Also be prepared to list ingredients as required for those who suffer food allergies"

There will be BBQs available as well as the kitchen for preparing and heating food. To try and keep down the amount of stuff you need to bring, the following will be provided:

  • Condiments and seasonings
  • Plates, bowls and cups
  • Cutlery and serving utensils
  • Serviettes
  • BBQ tools
  • Coffee and tea

Bonfire

The bonfire starts about 9:00

Fireworks

Fireworks start about 10:00

Lawn Chairs and Clothing

Please bring your own lawn chairs and come dressed for the weather. It may cool off in the evening, and their may be mosquitoes!

Parking

Please come into the driveway, turn around at the garage, and park on the right side of the driveway facing out.

There's plenty to do on your day in the country. In addition to caching your way out to the BBQ, there's:

  • Fishing . . .

For brown trout at the Reynolds Ponds by the Reynold's Ponds Cache. The road in from Ross can be quite challenging at times, but the road north from the TransCanada highway is usually good.

  • Swimming . . .

At the local swimming hole (a.k.a. gravel pit) by the Country Life – The Swimming Hole Blitz cache.

  • Bird Watching . . .

Take a walk through the marsh by following the trail along the English River from N49 46.439 W96 31.483 to N49 46.878 W96 32.596. If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the Sandhill Cranes - you'll certainly hear them! The trail is within walking distance of the BBQ event.

  • ATV Playground . . .

This is ATV country. There's a large ATV community in Ross and there's some great riding through miles of gravel pits and trails close to Ross around N49 45.586 W96 24.924. There's also about a square mile of 70 year old gravel pits and trails in and around the Aqueduct cache.

  • Picnicking . . .

Where do country folk go for a day in the country? The gigantic former Lafarge gravel pit with it's 1.2 km long lake, rolling hills and artifacts from when the railway used to come right into this huge pit site. The What a view cache is located here.

  • Bocce Ball Tournament  . . .

At the BBQ event. Feel free to Bocce your way around the yard - just stay out of the poison ivy!

A small donation to offset the cost of the provisions and fireworks ($5 per caching team, or $3 per individual) would be appreciated.
