It is said that the earth's circle which the human race inhabits
is torn across into many bights, so that great seas run into the
land from the out-ocean.
On April 12, 1961 the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich
Gagarin became the first human to travel into space, as well as
orbit the Earth. 45 years later on the same day we made this cache
available in the vicinity of Reykjavik Airport as a reminder to
this great event - Cosmonautics Day.
In Iceland the sea is normally far too cold to tempt swimmers, but
at Nautholsvik bay in Reykjavik, a thermal beach has been created,
where natural hot water flows out into the sea, and you can frolic
in the waves as if you were in the Mediterranean! A beach of golden
sand has been created and a “pool” has been enclosed nearby, where
the water temperature is about 20ºC. Refreshments and various
services are available at the beach. Nautholsvik beach is open
daily 10:00 to 20:00 from 15th May until 15th September. Tel. 511
6630.
The cache is a glass jar.
Original contents: log-book, pens, a toy.
