Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are not for the cache! They are for Dorking Railway Station, which is vaguely nearby, and is as good a place to start as any other.

Please note that you will need transport to complete this cache, as not all the locations are served by public transport, and the distances involved are measured in miles not metres. To give you some idea, the shortest route between all the locations is about 35 miles and the fastest about 12 miles further. These figures include a walk of approximately of 1.25 miles, as calculated from the pub located to the North East of the cache site and back again. There are other places to park free of charge around the cache location, which provide a nicer walk, but you may well need a drink or two if you’ve done this cache in one hit. This area is also great for a dog walk, although it can get a bit wet and boggy in places.

This is the first of a series of caches that have their origins in the research I did for purple_pineapple’s “’X’ Marks The Spot” cache. Therefore before continuing, I would like to say thank you to him for an excellent cache, and recommend you go and do it, if you haven’t done so already. There is a link to it, and other caches in the series, at the bottom of this cache page.

In tribute to the original, I have named and styled this cache along the same lines, and although the locations are probably not quite as interesting, I hope you like them, and enjoy the research.

Some of the clues below are somewhat cryptic and may seem a little strange; however I have used my patented CTD (Cache Test Dummy) and know that it’s possible to complete using the information below, and a bit of internet research. Thanks John, you’re not really a dummy.

So without further ado, here comes Nanny’s Revenge....

1. A memorial can be found where the inventor is buried. The memorial has A lines of text on it.

2. The gate at the eastern entrance to his Alma Mater has a warning notice on it. The notice has B lines of text on it.

The distance, as the crow flies, between his school and his grave is approximately 16 miles.

You will also need to visit two more ‘obvious’ villages. The only help you should need is that one is in Sussex, and the other is in Surrey, and that they are completely separate locations to where the memorial and Alma Mater are located.

3. In the Sussex village you need to travel back to 1951 and stand facing the WI. Make sure you have your left foot in July and your right foot in June, and then C is the 8th number from the right (or 9th from the left) on the inner half-circle. It will make sense when you find the right location, honest!

4. In the Surrey village you need to try and get some water. When you’ve located the right place to do this, you will find that there is one last fence/hurdle to overcome. Look at the obvious route through, and D is the third digit of the year.

The cache is located at N51° P.Q and W00° R.S, where:

P = B x C

Q = (A + 1)² + C

R = A + B + C

S = (2D - 1)² + (D-B)

Good luck, and if you want any help, then please email me through my profile.
