Situated on Simonskloof Mountain Retreat, this cache is perfect for Mtn Bikers or Hikers and is at the bottom (565m asl) of the Keerom dam wall. Approach from the EAST via the Koo Valley.
To get to Simonskloof Mountain Retreat: Take R318 and turn off at 33°38.366'S 19°48.777'E, and again at 33°38.774'S 19°47.550'E. Head for 33°37.015'S 19°43.700'E for reception & safe parking. To get to the cache head down the valley (make sure you first reported at the reception if you are not staying over) it's a 60-90min walk (one way) along the Jeep track a perfect Mtn Bike ride past two cottages. The Rebirth of a River refers to the start of the Nuy River which before the building of the Keerom Dam in 1954 was called the Koo River and long before the "discovery" of the Koo: Wilge Rivier (Willow River). More of the history in the cache. The two plaques of the inaugurations just above the wall have been remove to prevent vandalism. Satellite coverage might be effected at times. When placing the cache it showed an accuracy of 8m The cache is a 1l plastic container 110/150/60mm Please do not tamper with Dam, Shutter- Valve- wheels, or Measuring devices etc. Simply stay on path. The "Keerom OG Pad" off the Rooihoogte pass is NO ACCESS to the dam or cache! It's private after the first farm in the valley - Please respect the landowner rights.
