A level walk from the car park along the path overlooking one of West Penwith’s most beautiful beaches. Most of this walk is suitable for the whole family but please be aware that the path deteriorates over the last 50 yards. This final part involves climbing and scrambling over granite rock close to the sea. It is NOT safe for children or adults with dodgy knees/hips/ankles! Please do not attempt this cache in windy, stormy weather or when conditions may be icy underfoot.
The Minack Theatre and the point
What’s the Point? Minack Point has been a favourite fishing spot for generations of St Levan men and boys. On the final stretch of the walk you may see cormorants, seals, surfers or basking sharks and you will pass beside the changing rooms of the world famous Minack Open Air Theatre which is situated higher up the cliff above the cache site.
Park at the main public car park in Porthcurno valley. Alternatively, if you intend to visit the Minack Theatre, continue along the road and up the hill to their car park for visitors. From there you can follow the steep public footpath down towards Porthcurno beach and enjoy the wonderful views across the bay to the Logan Rock headland. Please note, it is NOT possible to get to the cache location from within the Minack Theatre itself.
When you get to the first 'big red square' continue about 20 yards towards the Point, then take the narrow path to the right, NOT the track to the left along the very edge of the rocks.
The cache is a small Lock & Lock box, containing only the geocaching information sheet, a log book and pencil. Please note that there is only room for small travel bugs, geocoins and tiny swaps. Kindly make sure it is replaced firmly wedged into position with the camouflage in front of the cache.
The real reward is the warm glow of finding it, a scenic walk ….. and the virtuous feeling of having made your point!
