Start at Old Mission Dam and follow Oak Canyon Trail for an easy and scenic streamside stroll. Well, you know, except for the last third of a mile up a power-line service road where y’all gonna die. Be really careful with your footing on the service road, especially when coming back down from the top.
The cache location offers a terrific view of the MTRP grassland area and of the faraway foothill and mountain ranges out toward the east. The trail passes by the interesting lower and middle cataract areas of Oak Canyon. Seasonally you can expect two or three micro and mini waterfalls at the cataracts. Birds, lizards, and an occasional snake make Oak Canyon their home. Do treat them all with sensible respect.
