La cache e' nascosta presso la necropoli di San Rocco.
La necropoli e' situata lungo il costone tufaceo che delimita la valle del fiume Lente, E' raggiungibile seguendo la strada provinciale che congiunge Sorano a Sovana. Per arrivarci occorre superare il ponte sul fiume e poi risalire una serie di tornanti scavati nel tufo. La necropoli e' costituita da tombe a camera scavate nel tufo risalenti al III-II sec. A.C. Oltre alle tombe a camera, si possono notare moltissimi colombari romani che si affacciano numerosi lungo la valle del fiume. I colombari sono una delle caratteristiche tipiche del territorio di Sorano, alcuni sono formati da loculi rozzi e irregolari, ma altri (loc. Colombarie) sono assai raffinati ed eleganti. Dalla necropoli e' possibile percorrere la via cava di San Rocco (circa 2Km) che conduce al paese di Sorano con accesso dalla porta dei Merli. Le vie cave sono delle vie lunghe buie e strette, profondamente incassate nella roccia tufacea che scendono alle sponde dei fiumi.
Dalla terrazza naturale che e' la necropoli stessa, si puo' ammirare lo splendido panorama di Sorano.
In alcuni periodi dell'anno e' previsto il pagamento di un biglietto (€ 2,00) per accedere alla necropoli.
The cache is hidden in the necropoli of Saint Rocco.
The necropolis is situated along the tufaceous ridge that defines the valley of the River Lente. It can be reached by following the provincial road that joins Sorano and Sovana. To get there we have to cross the bridge over the river and then go up a series of hairpin curves dug into the tufa. The necropolis consists of chamber tombs carved into the rock that date from the III-II centuries B.C. Beyond to the chamber tombs it is possible to visit the columbaria. The columbaria are one of the typical features of the Sorano area, some consist of rough, uneven niches, but others (at Colombarie) are quite elegant and refined. From the necropoli it is possible to cover the sunken road of Saint Rocco (approximately 2Km) that it leads to the country of Sorano with access from the door of Merli. The sunken road are those unusual, long, dark and narrow roads deeply set into the tufaceous rock that lead down to the river banks.
From the natural terrace that is the necropoli, you will discover the spendid landscape of Sorano.
