Geocache Description:

Accessible from outside the State Recreation area. For more information see below.

The cache is a plastic fruit jar with a green lid . It contains the normal cache goodies.

Dec 2010 - Lots of rain. The dam filled to 150% and they opened the gates wide and flooded Dubbo a bit. The cache is still accessible but not by land.

May 2010 - With the road closed across the main dam wall this cache has become a little more remote and I have updated the ratings to suit. Works are being undertaken to raise the main wall and two smaller walls by 1.8m. This will take 12 months. There are also works being planned for the main spillway that will take 4 years, the construction on a new 100m spillway and a fish ladder. Interesting.

A short walk in from the south west is good option at the moment (March 2006 - dam was less than 40% full) as the tide is out. When (if ???) the dam gets to about 75% full, there will be no access except by boat and the terrain rating will probably rate as a 3.5. This cache is also very accessable by boat at all times and the means of accessing this form of transport if you are currently nautically inequipted is discussed on the cache page of "Burrendong Lion".

When you do get there, take a moment to sit, relax and enjoy the view. It's nice.

Also if the asscociated webpage (visit link) lists the cacpacity of the dam as being more than 100%, even up to 120%, there is a pretty good chance that the gates will be in operation and there will be action aplenty to partake in.
