It is important that you complete both parts of stage one before
attempting stage two. The second section needs to be attempted in
one go and will require fast and accurate entry of coordinates and
text messages on a mobile (text messages are charged at your normal
rate, you may have to send up to seven). Text responses are
automated. The third Stage, the underground section, should be
attempted with appropriate safety precautions and should not be
undertaken lightly.
The above coordinates are possible parking for the second stage.
Stage one:
There are two clues to solve in this stage. Both must be solved
before you start the next stage.
The first clue is to the codeword which is required for the
second stage:
You'll know when you've got the answer right. You can confirm this
by texting your answer to 07766 40 41 42. If you are correct then
you will get the response “right codeword”. You can send this at
any point in the cache to “ping” the server and ensure it is
working. However, every message you send costs me money so please
don’t do this too often. September 07: 28 mobiles including most
major providers have worked with the right codeword, but two Tesco
mobiles didn't work with the system. You will know when you get it
right, so if you don't get an answer then please mail me and we'll
keep a list of any mobile providers that don't work with the
system.
The other clue identifies the starting location for the second
stage:
Huey Lewis . 4 . 1
After you have solved the above clues you will know where to
start and the codeword. Good luck with solving these clues. Please
don't start sending guesses to stage 2 after solving the codeword
before you arrive at the start location. The following questions
are designed to be answered once there, so it's pointless and
incurs cost for each text.
Additional hints to the codeword puzzle can be requested through my
profile above. Please don't post the answer (or hints) anywhere on
the internet when you've solved it.
Stage two:
The second section starts at the location that you’ve now worked
out, and is against the clock. You have to answer a question and
text the answer to 07766 40 41 42. If you got the answer right then
you will get the coordinates of the next location, the question
which you need to answer, and the time that you’ve got to reply. If
you don’t answer correctly then you’ll get an additional question.
Repeated wrong answers will result in failure and you will not be
able to try again for 24 hours. The complete stage includes several
questions and completing it correctly will result in receiving the
coordinates and details for the third stage.
At the starting location, waypoint the rough location and then
tell me “How many ascending and how many descending?”
When you can answer this question then send the text in the
following way to 07766 40 41 42: Codeword_x_up_y_down
Note that the format is unforgiving. The codeword comes from
stage one above. The _ character is a space. X is the number
ascending. Y is the number descending. There is no comma. Hence if
you think that there is 1 ascending and 1 descending then you would
text the following: Codeword 1 up 1 down
You will receive a series of coordinates, questions, time
permitted and answer formats. You will need to quickly enter the
new coordinates, go to that location, answer the question and send
the answer back to 07766 40 41 42. This stops the clock. If you
answer correctly within the time limit then you go on to the next
question. If not then you will be asked a supplemental question.
You have to answer using the same mobile phone (some mobiles don’t
send their number but you have to use one which does). Answers can
be in upper or lower case. Note that you must not reply to the text
containing the question, you must send a new text each time.
This section is timed and involves crossing some roads so is
unsuitable for young families if you would have to watch children.
If you don’t answer the questions correctly, within the time
permitted, then you will fail this stage and the cache. If you
answer all the questions correctly within the time permitted then
you will receive the coordinates and directions for the final
stage.
Stage three
The third stage starts with the underground challenge, where you
should find a small cache containing the coordinates for the final
cache. The final cache is above ground nearby. There is no time
restriction for either step in this stage. When you arrive at this
location, please park in the sideroad. There are several entrances
to the underground section, ensure you use the right one by
ensuring the coordinates are close (50' inaccuracy is too far).
Safety:
Part of this cache is in a disused underground Quarry.
Conditions underground can change, for example due to rockfalls and
the weather, so you must consider the current conditions and ensure
that you are safe at all times. Your safety is entirely your own
responsibility. Before going underground, it is essential that you
are well prepared, if in doubt then do not go underground. You must
attempt this stage in a group or with a friend and ensure that you
tell someone when you are going underground with a cut-off maximum
return time of one hour in case of accidents (the name of the
Quarry and coordinates are in the answers to Stage two). It is
essential that you take a hard hat and at least two torches,
ideally with spare batteries. You will get dirty (some crawling is
necessary) so wear suitable clothing.
Thanks: Many thanks to Teasel for making this cache possible,
and providing server response facilities from geocacheUK for text
responses. You should check the server is working by resending the
codeword before travelling for this cache).
