This is a tribute cache for our cat Wimsey, who was the inspiration for my caching name. He recently developed kidney disease at age 12 and reached the end of a sweet life so we had to put him down. Lake Wheeler Park is closed on Mondays from October-March.
We were introduced to a vet who performs this service as a house call. His last living moments were lying in the afternoon sunshine in the front room on his favorite blanket, instead of the terror of being crated and taken back to the vets for more poking and prodding and inspecting. Not a bad way to leave this life. I wouldn't mind having that option for me when the day comes.
I found my first cache near this location in August 2002. I picked wimseyguy as my handle and my wife became shadowgal, after our two (at that time) cats. Wimsey was named for Lord Peter Wimsey of the Dorothy Sayers mysteries-shadowgal's absolute favorites. Since I tend to have a whimsical sense of humor it seemed fitting at the time. Now eight+ years, and thousands of caches later-the caching world knows me better as wimsey than my real name. Since Wimsey thought he was the fierce backyard hunter on the occasional chances he was allowed out there; I filled the cache with some of his favorite things to play with and bring to us as his treasures. He also liked to chase the frogs back into our pond, so there are some of those as well.
