Geocache Description:

Cache is not at posted coordinates!
The cache is within 3 miles of posted coordinates.

We were introduced to the Set game recently and thought it would make a good base for a fun and relatively easy puzzle cache.
The rules are simple and it can be played by kids of all ages.
  • HOW TO PLAY
  • There are 4 features on each card: color, shape, shading, number of items on card.
  • Each feature has 3 options:
Color is red, green, or violet. Shape is oval, diamond, or squiggle. Shading is solid, open, or striped. Number of items is one, two, or three.
  • A 'Set' consists of three cards in which each feature is EITHER THE SAME on each card OR IS DIFFERENT on each card.
So any feature in each 'Set' of three cards is either common to all three or is different on all three.
  • The setgame.com has examples and a daily puzzle.
Find all the 'Sets' of 3 cards in these two Set games, and then use the 'Sets' to determine the cache coordinates.

In case the colors aren't clear, they are:
North Game colors: RRGV GRRR GGVV
West Game colors: VVRR GVGR GVRV

The cache location had one of our favorite sets: (some local history, a bit of art, lots of outdoor games)! In 2008, changes were made to this location, which eliminated the hide spot and moved the in-theme feature. The puzzle has been modified and the cache has been moved to correspond with the changes at the site. (If you have a pre-Dec-2008 solution lying around, and don't want to re-do the puzzle, email it to us for offsets to the new location.)

The hide itself is Difficulty Level 1 to 1.5. The cache is pill bottle size, so small coins and sig items will fit. Bring your own pen.

3/6/06: Puzzle hint added after FTF and STF.
9/24/06: Added 2nd puzzle hint.
11/2020: added Geochecker coordinate checker.
