This small cache is hidden in the parking area at the Domkrag Dam in the Addo Elephant National Park – it can take small goodies for trade (1l container).
The Domkrag Dam is one of the few places in the Addo Elephant National Park where visitors can get out of their vehicles to view the area. The dam is named after a giant of a tortoise – it had the habit to get in under vehicles and them lift them up with sheer power – hence the name Domkrag (“dom”= stupid, “krag”= power = jack to lift vehicles with). Later in its life it fell into an aardvark hole where it died. The shell of the tortoise is kept in the Reception office at the park where it can be viewed by visitors.
An overnight stay in the Park is recommended – the cache is merely one of the attractions. Game drives and game viewing will get you hooked on a special place in our country. Beware of lions when you get out of the car at your own risk in the designated parking area as it is not fenced of from the game area. An entrance fee to the park is payable – owners of a Wildcard enter free – but pay for overnight accommodation.
