Cluedo® – The Where? (relocated) (Bucks) Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Team Hippo: Sadly people no longer seem to be interested in quality caches of the sort this was once a part, so this has served its purpose and is now redundant.

Geocache Description:

Loosely based on the popular Murder Mystery board game, this set of caches and companion Travel Bugs will help you determine who committed the dastardly deed, where, and with what. Visit the first three caches and gather the clues at each, or intercept the three Travel Bugs (or a combination of caches and travel bugs), to lead you to the final cache and solve the murder mystery.

There have been quite a number of different editions of Cluedo released over the years and in different countries, and the characters, weapons and locations vary. The ones used here are those I became familiar with when playing the game as a lad, so apologies to anybody who knows others.

This series is set in the vicinity of large country houses, any of which might have been the venue for the crime. All the caches are on or adjacent to public rights of way.

Due to repeated muggling, this cache has been relocated. Cachers who found and logged the original will be able to log this as a seperate cache, although the clues contained therein are the same.

The Where? is now set close to Halton House, once country home of Alfred de Rothschild and now Officers’ Mess at RAF Halton. The house was commissioned in 1879 in the style of a French château, and completed in 1883. It was one of the first houses to have electric light and central heating installed, and also had an hydraulic lift between the ground floor and the first floor. The lift was powered by water pressure from a huge water tank that was placed in the roof of the Swiss Chalet Hunting lodge at the top of Aston hill. The overspill pipes from the tank ran down to a hollow in the woods near the cache where an ice rink was built for use in winter months.

The cache is set outside MoD property, adjacent to a public footpath, and is therefore accessible at all times. This is a pleasant area to walk in, and is pushbike and buggy friendly if approached along the canal from either direction. Please note that the track in from the south east is private, and the owner resents people driving close to the cache. Due to a very indifferent GPS signal in the immediate area, the hint is quite specific (if a little cryptic!).

In each of the first three caches, (Who? What? Where?), or attached to each of the three corresponding Travel Bugs, you will find some clues relating to each of the familiar characters, weapons or locations, as appropriate. At each you will also find a single digit number watermarked onto the clue sheet. Make a note of this – you will need it later.

When you have collected the clues from all three caches, or all three Travel Bugs (or a combination) you will have the evidence necessary to lead you to the final cache and solve the Who? What? Where? conundrum and go for The Reveal cache.

You will need to bring pen and paper with you to make a note of the clues you find at the cache site. Take great care when copying them.

Update 13-7-2012 - Please note that to retrieve the cache you need to move one single slice of wood, you DO NOT NEED to disturb any log piles or other wildlife habitat.
