Transylvania West....

If you want to see a vampires grave, just take a look in the Ocean State. There Mercy Brown, the most celebrated Yankee vampire rests.

In January 1892, at age nineteen, Mercy Brown was the third member of her family to die from a debilitating wasting disease. Folks began to suspect the deaths were the work of a vampire's cold kiss. To be certain, the Browns dug up their fallen family. Two had been properly reduced to skeletons, but Mercy was still looking pretty good. Worse, it was clear she had somehow moved in her coffin. And - horror upon horror - there was still "fresh blood" in her veins and heart! Case closed. Mercy was the vampire.

Village elders knew exactly what to do. They cut out her heart, burned it, and used the ashes to concoct a grisly homeopathic remedy for the survivors to ingest. Evidence would suggest that the cure worked; there were no more vampires reported in Exeter. But something weird still visits the old graveyard. People continue to tell of a mysterious floating ball of light that hovers around Mercy's grave or drifts among the other headstones.

Another bit of Rhode Island lore....
