Geocache Description:

An easy cache in the Magaliesburg.

This is a straight forward traditional cache located on the Phaladingwe nature trail in the Magaliesburg. The nature trail is on AEC's property near Pelindaba. Here you will also find a museum of Gustaf Preller and the familay cemetery. The trail is circular and is either 5.8km or 7.2km depending on the option you choose towards the end of the trail (signposted). The cache is approximately 1.2km into the trail. You'll pass the old wild olive and reach the look out point where you will find the cache and enjoy the view of the river. Good spot for that first snack as well

The trail is open daily from 08h00 to 17h00. Make sure you take plenty of water, hats, and sunscreen. Vervet monkeys and baboons are abundant, so take care with food items. There is a large and vibrant bird life, so twitchers should not forget their binoculars. Near the house there are BBQ and picnic facilities with running water at the house.

There is an entrance fee payable, R7.00 for adults, R3.00 for children under 12 and for pensioners. This may have changed slightly as the last few times I've been there, there has been no-one attending to the trail fees and I have not seen an honour box anywhere.

To reach the cache, take the indicated turnoff. The access gate is at the turnoff, but if this is locked proceed up to the Pelindaba gate and turn right at WPT1. In both cases proceed to the parking. If the museum is open, report to the office to pay for the trail. Proceed to the head of the trail and follow the trail. The trail will take you on a circular route. If you continue the trail after the cache, the river route is recommended. This may not be accessible during the rainy season due to the level of the river. It is however the more scenic route.

NB: The cache is in a waterproof 3.0l container and is contained within a green waterproof bag. Review and print these instructions to make sure you close the bag correctly.
