BREVE INTRODUÇÃO AO PARQUE PALEOZÓICO
«O
Parque Paleozóico foi criado em 1998 de forma a preservar o
ambiente e as espécies ameaçadas em extinção. Os visitantes
podem contactar com distintos aspectos das ciências da terra
através de circuitos interpretativos.
Tudo começou há mais de 500 milhões de anos, quando esta região se
encontrava submersa por mares pouco profundos, onde viviam
organismos primitivos como as trilobites, os graptólitos e os
braquiópodes. Estas formas animais ter-se-ão extinguido perto do
final do Paleozóico, mas o registo da sua presença ficou bem
visível nas rochas que hoje ali existem, especialmente nos
abundantes xistos e nalguns quartzitos, sob a forma de
fósseis.» |

| O CIA (Centro de
Interpretação Ambiental) do Parque Paleozóico de Valongo situa-se
no waypoint abaixo (gentilmente cedido pelo
Nandini) e dele partem percursos pedestres para observação dos
diversos fenómenos geomorfológicos que se podem encontrar nestas
serras. |

A CACHE
Esta cache está localizada na margem esquerda do
rio Ferreira, num local onde podem ser vistas algumas marcas de
erosão causadas pela corrente do rio, denominadas "pias" ou
"marmitas de gigante", mas o verdadeiro interesse desta cache está
no percurso feito até ela.
Para chegarem a este local têm 2
opções:
1. Podem tentar
chegar até ao local através da margem esquerda do rio, através de
percursos existentes na Serra.
2. Podem
estacionar na margem direita (ver waypoint) ,
perto da ponte de comboio que atravessa o rio Ferreira.
Recomendamos esta opção, que representa bastante menos
tempo de caminhada (cerca de 800m até à cache).
Terão
de atravessar a ponte de comboio a pé para chegarem à outra margem
do rio e a partir daí terão de descer, logo depois da ponte, para
um trilho que vos levará até à cache.
Sensivelmente a meio do percurso, terão de atravessar um afluente
do rio Ferreira. É estreito e passível de ser atravessado com
cautela.
ATENÇÃO: O local, mais perto do rio, tem rochas
muito escorregadias pois este local é sombrio e mesmo em tempo seco
terão de ter cuidado e tentar pisar sempre zonas com terra e evitar
as rochas. |

| The
CIA (Environment Interpretacion Centre) of the Valongo Paleozoic
Park is located at the waypoint below. There you'll find
information about the Paleozoic Era and the fossiles found in
Valongo mountains, as well as information about the natural
habitats and rock formations of these beautiful
mountains. |

This cache is located in
the left bank of the Ferreira river, in a place
where you can see some round erosion marcs on the rocks, but the
real beauty is on the walk you'll have to make to reach the
cache.
To get to this place you have 2
options:
1. You can try to
get here by the left bank, through one of the existing
paths on the mountain.
2. You can park your car in
the right bank (see waypoint), near the railway
bridge over the Ferreira river. This option, which we
recomend, will make you walk much less (about 2600 feet/800mt to
the cache).
You'll have to cross the railway bridge on
foot and right after you'll have to descend to the path that will
lead you right to the cache.
Halfway you'll have to cross a small course of water, which is
narrow and can be crossed with care.
BE CAREFUL: The place, near the river, has very
slippery rocks. You'll have to be carefull and try to step in
places with dirt and avoid stepping on the rocks. |
