Geocache Description:

Truth or Fiction - see for yourself

On a beautiful calm night in April, a traveling salesmen, lets call him John, was heading on his way back to Cape Town after an unsuccessful day of sales in Worcester. As the Huguenot tunnel wouldn’t be built for another 20 years, the only option to get to Cape Town was via the old Du Toitskloof Pass. During the day the pass makes for a very scenic route but at night its winding bends and steep cliffs can quickly turn into nightmare if not approached with caution.

John had a rather difficult day driving in the hot Boland sun and by the time he reached the pass he really had to concentrate to stay awake.

As he drove into the old tunnel his whole body suddenly jolted with fear because coming straight towards him, in his lane, was a dark red vehicle traveling at an incredible speed. The deepest darkest red colour which could easily be mistaken for a sinister black. Even though he made a conscious effort to see the driver of the other vehicle, he couldn’t recall seeing a face. John tried to swerve out to the other lane but it almost seemed as if the vehicle just swerved in the same direction making an accident immanent. Clutching the steering wheel tight he waited for the two vehicles to collide. As the other vehicle was about to make contact with his, he closed his eyes in anticipation, but what followed was not what he expected. There was no loud crash, there was no impact, all he felt was a fierce chill pass through his body as if the oncoming vehicle was nothing but a cold penetrating blizzard.

Needless to say he managed to stay awake for the remainder of his trip. He apparently gave up his job and moved to Velddrif where he fished his life away and surprised many a visitor with the strange story of his trip to Cape Town that beautiful calm night. He was not the first person to experience this wraith and certainly not the last.

Now – you could attempt to do this cache in the dead of night in which case we cannot be held responsible for what may occur, or you could do it during the day. Whichever you choose, as you drive through the tunnel, try to imagine what John felt like on that frightful night.

If possible please bring haunted items for trade.

The cache has been moved to a spot which will be less muggled. Please be cautious when making your way to the cache as the path can be dangerous if you do not pay attention to where you are walking.
