Geocache Description:

Moderate walk up to a spectacular view point.

Walla Crag is a mile long escarpment which looms over Great Wood on the B5289 Borrowdale Rd. With stunning views over Keswick and Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite Lake and Scotland are also visible in the distance.

There are a number of ways to reach Walla Crag, the shortest route is probably from Castlerigg Farm although parking may be a problem in the summer. Alternative routes are from Springs Farm, Cat Gill or even Ashness Bridge if you fancy a slightly longer walk.

Note that this is an exposed cliff face, children and dogs should be kept under close supervision. The cache is hidden well back from the edge and the site would make a great spot for a picnic – this might also provide cover from any nosey muggles!

Ken Russell’s film Tommy includes a scene with a picnic on the summit of Walla Crag.

Something to look out for are a number of lovely old yew trees near the summit, you can identify them from the dense green foliage and the fact that nothing grows underneath them.
