Dies ist ein internationaler Tausch-Cache von LadyStevenson in
Moscow, Idaho USA und eigengott. Der originale Chache-Inhalt stammt
von LadyStevenson mit typischen Sachen aus den USA. eigengott
wartet den Cache lokal.
Dieser Cache führt dich in eines der wenigen verbliebenen
Gebiete in der Eifel, in der noch die Wacholderheide mit ihren
typischen Pflanzen wächst. Die Heide entstand einst durch
Übernutzung des Waldes zur Herstellung von Holzkohle für die
Eisenverhüttung. Danach prägte ein Wechsel von Feld- und
Weidewirtschaft (Schafe), die sogenannte Schiffelwirtschaft, diese
Kulturlandschaft. Heute muss sie durch Pflegemaßnahmen erhalten
werden, von alleine würde hier wieder normaler Wald wachsen.
Der Cache kann von mehreren Seiten angegangen werden,
empfehlenswert ist der Weg von Oberheckenbach aus. Dort stehen bei
N50° 27.688' E7° 04.852' ein paar wenige Parkmöglichkeiten neben
der Strasse zur Verfügung. Von dort braucht man insgesamt etwa zwei
Stunden für ca. 5km Wegstrecke. Festes Schuhwerk wird empfohlen.
Der Cache kann bis auf die letzen 100m auch mit einem Mountainbike
gemacht werden.
Für einen kleinen Rundweg empfehlen sich folgende
Zwischenpunkte: Vom Parkplatz bergauf zu N50 28.102 E7 04.356, dann
rechts zu N50 28.261 E7 04.232. Von dort dem Weg folgend über N50
28.285 E7 04.572 zum Cache. Anschliessend zu N50 28.452 E7 04.388,
dort links den Bergpfad hinauf und dann auf den Weg zurück zum
Parkplatz.

This is an International Cache Exchange between LadyStevenson
from Moscow in Idaho,USA and eigengott from Cologne, Germany.
LadyStevenson provided all the original cache contents with items
typical for the US. eigengott is maintaining the cache.
This cache leads you into one of the few remaining areas in the
Eifel, where the juniper heath with it's typical plants still
grows. The heath once was created through abuse of the wood to
create charcoal to melt iron ore. Afterwards alternating usage as
field and as meadow (sheep), the so called Schiffelwirtschaft,
formed this cultural landscape. Today it must be preserved with
regular care, otherwise ordinary wood would take over.
You can go to the cache from several directions, but it is
advisable to go from Oberheckenbach. There are a few parking
possibilites at N50° 27.688' E7° 04.852'. From there it takes about
two hours and 5km for the whole hike. Sturdy shoes recommended.
Except for the last 100m the cache can also be done with a
mountainbike.
For a small roundtrip go from the parking place uphill to N50
28.102 E7 04.356, then turn right to N50 28.261 E7 04.232. From
there follow the trail via N50 28.285 E7 04.572 to the cache.
Afterwards go to N50 28.452 E7 04.388, follow the small uphill
trail to the left and then back to the parking place.
