Geocache Description:

The cache is situated in the town of Hermanus,Western Cape, South Africa.

During the Second World War over 70 POWs escaped from a German prison camp by means of a secretly dug tunnel under the electrified fence and walls of the camp. This was the largest single escape attempt during the war and became known as “The Great Escape” on which the 1963 movie was based starring Steve McQueen as Capt. Virgil “The Cooler King” Hilts. Paul Brickhill wrote the original book.
One of the organizers of the escape was a pilot who was shot down and captured by the Germans in May 1940. His parents lived in Hermanus and placed a plaque in his memory on his death. Look for his name at the above co-ordinates and use it to lead you to the final cache.

The cache container is too small to hold a pencil so take your own along to fill out the log with your name and date. At times this can be quite a busy area so be cautious. Pretend to be doing up your bootlace while searching!!!
