Placed at Monte Córdova, near the Leça River, in a very quiet
forest, with some water falls in the rainy season.
Esta Cache situa-se na freguesia de Monte Córdova, onde poderá
encontrar entre outros locais aprazíveis, o Carvalhal da Senhora
das Valinhas, um magnífico espaço de lazer com local de merendas e
de grande interesse paisagístico e cultural onde se pode observar:
- O antigo carvalhal, com grande interesse botânico, classificado
de interesse público.
- Os moinhos de água (Azenhas de Valinhas), de interesse histórico
e cultural, construídos com vista a aproveitar a energia da água
para a moagem de cereais, para a serração e também para o
apisoamento de tecidos, foram estabelecendo-se ao longo dos vários
afluentes do Rio Leça. As Azenhas de Valinhas possuem um grande
valor para a compreensão das pequenas actividades económicas de
subsistência, sendo possível observar a ligação estabelecida entre
estas estruturas económicas e a natureza que as rodeia.
- A Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Valinhas, no interior da capela
pode-se admirar a imagem de Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia em
madeira dourada e ainda a sala de oração com cobertura de madeira.
Esta pequena capela que foi recentemente recuperada, remonta pelo
menos ao séc XVIII, tendo no início do séc XIX o grande escritor
Alberto Pimentel descrito a famosa romaria. Que todos os anos, a 8
de Setembro, se realiza neste lugar.
- As Quedas de Fervença, onde se encontra colocada esta cache,
podem ser observadas no interior da floresta, estas quedas de água
apresentam um magnífico espectáculo da Natureza, correndo o rio
Leça célere e ainda limpo neste local. Dentro da cache poderá
encontrar informações sobre outros pontos de interesse no concelho
de Sto Tirso. Se quiser descer um pouco mais ao longo do rio existe
um trilho marcado que lhe irá proporcionar alguns momentos
agradáveis.

This cache will take to one of the many pleasant places the Monte
Córdova area has to offer. Concretely, a place called “Carvalhal da
Senhora das Valinhas”, a magnificent leisure space well-equipped
and rich in sightseeing and cultural details. Here’s a brief
explanation about some:
- An old oak field, considered a public interest space and a very
important botanical resource.
- The Valinhas water mills (Azenhas de Valinhas), mechanisms of
high historic and cultural interest and built to use the water flow
for grinding grain into flour and lumber production as well as for
fulling (a finishing process on cloth). There were a few of these
built along the Leça river, and nowadays they pay an very important
role understanding how these small activities related in the past
to the economy, the people and the nature that surrounds them.
- The Nossa Senhora das Valinhas church, built in the 18th century
and featuring an altar with a Our Lady of Misericordy (Nossa
Senhora da Misericórdia) image made out of golden coated wood and a
praying room with a wooden cover. The chapel has been restored
recently and it’s mostly known for being described by author
Alberto Pimentel in the 19th century, along with the festivities
which still repeat every year, on September the 8th.
- The Fervença Waterfalls, where the cache is hidden. Right in the
middle of the woods, an untouched nature show sure worth taking a
look at. There’s no other place one can see the Leça river as wild
and clear as it is right here.
Inside the cache you’ll also be able to see documentation about
other points of interest in the Santo Tirso area.
If you wish to be in touch with nature and see a little more,
you’ll enjoy walking for a while following the river along a
well-marked path, downstream.
