This a creation of the Great Ice Age
The Fjärås Bräcka end moraine-formation is one of the foremost remains from the Great Ice Age, in Sweden!
Istidens skapelse Fjärås Bräcka är en av landets förnämsta lämningar från istiden. När isen drog sig undan för cirka 12 000 år sedan, bildades en israndsbildning av sand, grus och sten. När isen växte till, sköt den sand, grus och sten framför sig, som en väghyvel. När sedan isen drog sig tillbaka låg denna enorma avsättning, ändmoränen, kvar och bildade en fördämning, som dämmer upp sjön Lygnern åtskilliga meter över havsnivån.
Vägen på åsen blev en viktig färdväg för de första människorna som kom till trakten för 10 000 år sedan. Denna väg var den enda förbindelsen mellan landet söder respektive norr om Lygnern inom en väldigt stor radie.
Från Bräckans krön har man en fantastisk utsikt. Långt ut i väster syns havet och i öster Lygnern, Hallands största insjö.
Naturum vid Bräckan
I juni 2005 invigdes naturum Fjärås Bräcka med utställning om bygdens natur och kulturhistoria samt ett café. Besökaren skall få tips om vad som händer i naturen just nu, och utanför husknuten startar naturstigar som visar vägen.
Enligt nuvarande riktlinjer för ”Earthcacher” kan cacheägaren inte ställa krav på foton, för att loggningen av cachen skall bli godkänd, men vill du fortsätta traditionen med foton uppskattar jag om du vill ladda ner, minst, två foton, ett på dig själv och din GPS vid markeringen “HÄR STOD HAVET FÖR 11 000 ÅR SEDAN" och ett från en valfri plats av Bräckan.
Du måste dock besvara följande frågor för att få loggen godkänd,
via ett e-brev till mig (inte något ”message”):
1. Hur många meter över havsnivån ligger Lygnerns vattenyta?
2. Hur många meter över havsnivån ligger krönet av Fjärås Bräcka?
3. Hur många steg är det i "tidstrappan" uppifrån och ner till grustaget och hur många meter över havet ligger det högsta "tidsteget" (11 000 år)?
4. Hur stor volym sand och sten beräknar man att Bräckan innehåller i dag?
Alla inte godkända loggar kommer att raderas!

From the Fjärås Bräcka you have a beautiful view over Lake Lygnern and in the west you’ll see the sea. Its richness in ancient monuments, an Iron Age graveyard among others, and the magnificence of its natural monuments make it an excellent goal for excursions.
The Fjärås Bräcka end moraine-formation is one of the foremost remains from the Great Ice Age, in Sweden!
When the inland ice receded about 12 000 years ago, an ice margin formation from sand, gravel and boulders formed an end moraine, which dams up the Lake Lygnern several meters (feet) above the mean sea level.
The moraine was formed because the ice, more or less, worked as humongous road grader and pushed sand, gravel and boulders in front of itself. When the ice stopped growing the movement came to a halt and a huge deposition of sand, gravel and boulders formed this terminal moraine.
Fjärås Bräcka consists of a 4 km (2,5 miles) long formation. The volume of the stratum of gravel and sand is enormous!
The top of the ridge became an important road for the first humans, who came to this area 10 000 years ago, because during the early stone age the sea level reached the top of Fjärås Bräcka.
From the top of Fjärås Bräcka you have a magnificent view. In the west you see the sea, Kattegat and in the east you have a wonderful view over the Lake Lygnern, the biggest lake in the county of Halland.
According to current guidelines for "Earthcaches" can the cache owner not require photos, to approve the logging of the cache, but if you want to continue the tradition with photos, I appreciate if you want to download, at least, two photos, one of yourself and your GPS at the mark “HÄR STOD HAVET FÖR 11 000 ÅR SEDAN” (here was the sea level 11 000 years ago) and one from any place of your choice at Fjärås Bräcka.
However, you must answer the following questions to get the log approved,
via an e-mail to me, (not a ”message”):
1. How many meters (feet) above mean sea level is the surface of Lake Lygnern?
2. How many meters (feet) above sea level are the crest of Fjärås Bräcka located?
3. How many steps is there in the “time staircase” from the top down into the gravel pit and how many meters above sea level is the highest “time step” (11 000 år)?
4. What volume of gravel and sand is “Bräckan” estimated to contain today?
All unapproved logs will be deleted!
