Geocache Description:

SK:

Popri osade viedla cesta spajajuca Ponitrie s Povazim a Moravou.

Obyvatelia tazili a spracovavali zeleznu rudu – zrejme az do vycerpania zasob.

EN:

Let us invite you to discover one piece of our cultural and historical heritage. This monument - pre-Romanesque rotunda sacred to St. George (Sv. Juraj in slovak) from first half of 9-th century, is situated on SE shoulder of Marhat hill in Povazsky Inovec mountains (western part of Slovakia).
Relic was built near medieval village discovered by archeological exploration in the years 1974 - 1980. Village was located close to important road connecting Nitra region with west domains of Povazie and Moravia.

Inhabitants were mining and processing iron ore - probably untill they worked it all out. The village vanished between 13-th and 14-th century, but fading rotunda was preserved to presence, mainly thanks to rebuildings in 1530 and 1655, however an original style of church has changed.

In the area of medieval settlements you can find large orchard today. Old fruit trees offer to visitors grateful shadow and refreshment as a reward for their visit.

How to come here: The chapel is part of the study-trail, which starts in the village Nitrianska Blatnica. Follow smooth paved road untill you'll reach N 48° 34.250' E 17° 57.485', then continue on foot or by bike, route is not too steep at all.

Drinking water is available below the church or next to the path N 48° 34.499' E 17° 57.665' (quite curious source :).

For more information, please visit this link (unfortunately just in slovak).
