Simcoe County Forests are the largest municipally owned
forests in Southern Ontario. Tracts range in size from 7 to over
3500 acres and are distributed throughout the County. There are
over 28000 acres of County Forests.
The County Forests grow most of the tree species native to
the County and several from Europe and Asia. The most common
coniferous species include red, jack and white pine, white and
norway spruce, hemlock, balsam fir, white cedar and european larch.
Common deciduous species are sugar maple, red oak, trembling and
largetoothed aspen, american beech, white ash and black
cherry.
Only about ½ of the County Forests are coniferous
plantations. The remainder are naturally regenerated forests
usually of deciduous species. Trees vary in age from newly
germinated and planted seedlings to over 300 year old specimens of
hemlock and white cedar.
The County Forests are used by many groups including
snowmobile clubs , Nordic ski clubs, hikers, horseback riders and
mushroom enthusiasts to name a few. They are the sites of
communication towers and have accommodated Canadian military
exercises.
Information quoted from Simcoe County Website.
One of may favorate places to geocache is in the Simcoe County
Forests. I'm placing a series of caches in these forest tracts with
some information about these tracts.
This is a simple projection cache. From the above co-ordinates
project a waypoint using the green fire number for the tract.
From the above waypoint, take the last three digits of the green
number.(Don't bother with the 1)
52 + ### = XXX meters away on a bearing of
###/2 = YYY degrees true.
________m @ ________deg.
Note:If for some reason you can't project waypoint with your GPS
let me know.
