Rock Island nestled among cottage country, on Sand lake, one of the many lakes in the Rideau Canal system. Rating is due to the fact you need a boat of some type to get there... canoe, kayak, or small boat being ideal, based on the landing site available on the island.
There are two locks on this lake. At the north is Davis Locks, with Jones Fall locks at the south. The Jones falls locks being one of the more impressive set of locks on the entire rideau system, and has a historic blacksmith shop onsite during the summer months.
Rock Island is us slightly off the beaten power-boat path for folks traversing the Rideau system.
This is not a wilderness adventure, as you are in cottage country.
This small island is great for kids to explore, however, there are steep cliffs and ledges.
Only one reasonable landing location, good for canoe, kayak, and small outboard aluminum boats.
I've seen boaters with larger watercraft anchoring just offshore: implies a short swim to shore!
The cache itself is a straight forward find, once you've made the journey to the island, and landed.
Cache is concealed in a safe area, away from any steep dropoffs or ledges.

Follow Davis Lock Road, to Bush road then follow your GPS down the right gravel road.
Kids playground available there too! Saw two water black rat snakes on bright sunny day while putting in the cache.
There are also marinas on the lake to launch other watercraft.
