An airway beacon site that has a great view of Lake George. Read on to find where to search. Do not trespass from Military Road!
This cache is all bushwhack. (Once you reach the west ridge, there is a new white blazed trail along the top of the ledges.) Access is South of the cache near the red cabin on North Rd. (Jeep trail at the end.) Obey the parking signs. Park before the red cabin if conditions permit, and your vehicle is up to the task. Obey the signs. Otherwise, park at the road intersection and walk in. Do not attempt access from Military Road to the East. It is all posted. There is now marked trail above the west ledge.
The coordinates are for the viewpoint, not the cache. The cache is well hidden. To find it you must find the bent steel stub of beacon leg projecting from the ground where the tower once stood, and from there go ~50 feet at 315 degrees. The tower has been removed. Look for the upright angle iron leg stubs in the weeds on the high ground near the rock outcrop.
Please rehide the cache as well as it was hidden!
The airway beacon system was developed to allow airmail to fly at night. This one was on the New York to Burlington route.
