Just a short 400m walk on flat ground not far from the centre of Donnelly Mill townsite.
Theres not much of a Ruse here except for the mill thats no longer operating.
This cache is the perfect tourist cache. We often have overseas friends and relatives staying with us and have found that they love the natural experience of Meeting kangaroos and Emus face to face and Paw to paw. There are a few places you can do this but most of them are excessively controlled or there are too many other people to make it a relaxing experience.
We were lucky enough to come down to “Donnelly Mill” one time while on holidays and since then we have been returning regularly.
This mill town has been carved out of the surrounding bush land and has the feeling of a place to “get away from it all”.
The houses are mill houses made from the timber that was taken from the forest and then milled to make the planks and create the town. It has that 1950’s feel about the town.
The bibulmum track goes right through the middle of the town and there is a shelter for those that wish to stop the night and replenish supplies if doing the long march south.
We generally rent one of the houses and have a day or two visiting local wineries and pubs. We recently found the “Bridgetown Cidery”. Nice food and Cider and beer made on the premises. We recommend it for a quiet afternoon tipple.
The cache is an easy walk of about 400m along the Bibulmum track and is set on a small offshoot track. We did find our GPS took a while to average its figures so you too will find it a bit hard to narrow down the cache.
We have been here during winter and summer. Winter can be cold (they provide firewood) and summer can be hot. The only thing that’s ever been a hassle was the march flies (in February so they were early). If they are there then you make a game of it. We purchased a fly swat from the store and kept a tally of the numbers of flies whacked for the weekend. We can’t remember the number right now but it was a significant figure.
