Geocache Description:

This multi-cache can be reached by any type of vehicle including motorhomes. Parking area is at N 41 49.406 and W 110 44.111. A trail leads to the first part of cache. Feel free to walk the complete loop. Lots of history and information further up the trail. To get to the final cache you will need to read the sign and fill in the letters with the correct number. For the letter A = The third number in the year the picture or circa was taken. Letter B = The fourth number in the year that oil was discovered. Letter C = The third number in the year that fossil collectors began to arrive. The coordinates are: N 41 49.AB6 W 110 43.9C2 To find log book and cache leave your car in parking lot and walk to the cache. Cache is outside of Monument bounderies--County Road side of fence. We drive by this area a lot and since we started caching decided to add a cache along this stretch of road. Several years ago my children and I hiked this area and enjoyed the history and the memories. While driving to the cache area, you will notice on the hillside tailings from mininig operations to locate fossilized fish. The area you will be, is one of the first prospectored fossilized fish areas dating back to the 1890's. There is a lot of history in this area. A visitor center is located 2 1/2 miles down the paved road. This is not a fee area.
